Day 6 Final Mexico standoff

The title may actually just be a strategy to drag you in. There was no Mexican standoff, but there was almost a spear tackle later in the night, but we'll get to that later.

After a very long day the day before, the sleep in was very much required! It was nice to head out for a relaxed luncheon and we sprayed the crap out of our limbs to warn of any new Mossi contenders. Today we took the opportunity to eat at the pool restaurant.

Today for our final full day in Mexico,we headed off to look at the hotel zone of Cancun. We headed in initially to shop, check out the beach and wander around. Apparently there is never an appropriate time to meander. Our cabby took us in and waited for us to do everything that we wanted, then drove us back to our hotel, approximately 40 minutes south.

We didn't buy much and to be honest we were more intent on perusing the beautiful azure blue of the local beaches. The area had a Miami beachfront look with the long strip of expensive hotels. It is definitely the party area. Once we headed to the beach area, we discovered that the water was very warm and clear and a lot nicer than the beaches nearer to us. At one point, we saw four Iguanas all bunched up near each other in downtown Cancun, which was a little freaky!

Regardless of that, our pool was calling our names, so we headed back and cruised in the pool for a couple of hours, chatting amongst people we'd previously met. One couple had been hanging to catch up with us, so that we could give them the skinny on the Chichen Itza tour, which was nice.

We headed to the Marina Seafood restaurant again for dinner and saw quite a few others who we'd also previously met. Once again we finished off our stay with an impressive and highly satisfying meal. The shrimp ceviche was to die for!

After dinner, to finish our night off we decided to stop by the beach bar to grab a few drinks and listen to the karaoke that was going on. One of our favourite bartenders was working the bar. He'd been quite friendly to us over the course of our stay at the resort and was helping us along with our EspaƱol.

Not long into our first drink, a very inebriated resort guest decided that he wanted to be our amigo, and  sat with us for a chat. Our mate Chad was intrigued by our Australian accent and started talking about the motorcross and Chad Reid. After going through several explanations about us having heard of the famous Australian champion, he decided to latch onto a few of the younger male locals.

We had a laugh listening to Chad attempting his very limited Spanish, which soon began to turn him into the little angry man that he was. His redneck side started to come out turning the nice enjoyable night that we were having into a little tense moment with him wanting to pick a fight with anyone that was speaking Spanish.

We decided that it was time to vamos ourselves out of there before an attempted spear tackle! Back to room for some last minute packaging and only an expected four hours sleep till we had to be at reception for the checkout. Oh well many of the great times in life seem to correlate with limited sleep.
